Silent Book Club

After a full day of author conversations, book browsing, and festival fun, let’s spend the evening doing what brought us together in the first place: reading.

Join the Decatur Book Festival and Silent Book Club for a community reading hour on the Decatur Square. Bring your latest read, start a book you picked up at the festival, or settle in with an ebook, audiobook, comic book, or whichever medium you love to read. All readers and all types of reading are welcome.

Unlike a traditional book club, there are no assigned books, no required discussion, and no homework. Just bring a book of your choice and enjoy some reading alongside fellow book lovers.

Come alone, bring a friend, or gather your whole book club. There is no pressure to socialize and no pressure to stay for the entire meet-up.

5:30 PM | Arrive & Settle In

Find a comfortable spot on the Square by the new stage. Grab a snack or a drink from one of our downtown Decatur restaurants. Tip! Adults can also take advantage of downtown Decatur’s open-container district and bring alcoholic beverages onto the Square. Don’t forget to pack your picnic blanket or camping chair!

6:00 PM | Silent Reading Hour Phones down. Books open. Spend an hour reading alongside fellow readers as downtown Decatur transforms into one big community reading group.

7:00 PM | Meet & Mingle

Stick around to meet other readers, share what you are reading, swap recommendations, and continue enjoying downtown Decatur—or simply head home with a few more pages under your belt.

Silent Book Club began in San Francisco in 2012 and has grown into a global community with 2,200+ chapters in 70 countries and more than one million members gathering to read together and swap stories.
