SCAD Atlanta - Emerging Student Writers

Join us in the Decatur Library to hear from Emerging Student Writers! These special sessions feature talented student writers from Georgia colleges reading their original work in 45-minute sessions throughout the day. 

The stage will be situated alongside The Book As Art v.14: Ghosted exhibit, creating a vibrant atmosphere where visual art and creative writing come together.

This session will be held on the Fourth Floor of Decatur Library. To reach the Fourth Floor, you'll need to take the elevator on the right (when you're facing the elevators–it's labeled). If the other elevator opens when you call, please take it to the third floor, exit, and press the up button again to call the correct elevator.

This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required, and seating is first come, first served. The Emcee for this session is Catherine Ramsdell.

About the SCAD Atlanta Emerging Student Writers:

Simone Bassiouni is a writer-animator from Louisiana. When not writing, she’s usually thinking about writing, or acquiring more knowledge to hoard from the depths of scholarly search engines, Wikipedia articles, or other odd corners of the internet. Mainly enjoys reading and flower language and abandoned buildings and the smell of concrete stairwells. That too. 

Matilda Miranda is an Atlanta-based author-illustrator. Inspired by nature and whimsical fantasy, she writes and illustrates enchanting and dreamy stories for young readers. Her children’s book The Poisoned Seedling blends friendship with magical wonder. Her book also showcases Illustrations that blend digital techniques with traditional textures to create quirky characters and magical environments. When she isn’t drawing or writing, she can be found exploring nature books for creative inspiration.

Jalyn Parker is a Baltimore, Maryland–born multihyphenate creative whose work explores the intersections of identity, culture, fashion, and visual storytelling. She believes that writing is freedom, saying, “Writing allows me to deepen my connection with people and self. It opens my mind, allowing me to understand the layers of life.” Jalyn’s portfolio spans cultural writing, film and television wardrobe styling and costume design, creative direction, and community storytelling. Across each medium, she is interested in the ways stories can be expressed through both language and image. Her work brings together fashion, art, and prose to create cohesive visual and emotional narratives. 

Kelly Quintana is a queer Mexican American writer who loves shaping stories that make people feel seen, understood, and a little more connected. She’s written multiple pieces across fiction and non-fiction, always finding the human element behind complicated topics. She brings the same mix of curiosity and care to everything she writes. Kelly is currently completing her MFA in Writing at SCAD and is focused on learning all she can to continue to grow in her craft.
