Discover the next generation of literary talent from Georgia State University at the Emerging Student Writers Stage. Join us at 2 PM in the Decatur Library’s Fourth Floor Gallery & Event Space for a dynamic 45-minute reading featuring original work by GSU’s rising stars.

Join us in the Fourth Floor Gallery & Event Space at the Decatur Library for the Emerging Student Writers Stage! This special event features talented student writers from Georgia colleges reading their original work in 45-minute sessions throughout the day. The stage will be situated alongside The Book As Art v.13: Mixed Messages exhibit, creating a vibrant atmosphere where visual art and creative writing come together.
This event will be held on the Fourth Floor of Decatur Library. To reach the Fourth Floor, you'll need to take the elevator on the right (when you're facing the elevators--it's labeled). If the other elevator opens when you call, please take it to the third floor, exit, and press the up button again to call the correct elevator.
About the Georgia State University Emerging Student Writers
Alice Ashe is a writer of poetry and prose whose work has appeared or is forthcoming in CRAFT, TriQuarterly, december, and other journals. She is currently wrapping up her MFA at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, where she lives with her partner and son.
Genevieve Clark is an MFA student in Fiction at Georgia State University. She earned her B.A. in Creative Writing from Agnes Scott College and is originally from Florida. Her work primarily focuses on the experiences of queer women and religious trauma with a supernatural twist. She loves old horror movies, fiber arts, queer fantasy and speculative fiction, and her stupid orange cat, Freddie.
Megan Hall is a poet and second-year Ph.D. student in Creative Writing at Georgia State University. Rooted in the landscapes and histories of the South, her work engages themes of ecofeminism, bodily autonomy, and the intersections of poverty, gender, and power. She is currently completing a book-length collection that examines the systemic inequalities shaping and endangering the lives of women and girls. Her poems have appeared in Yalobusha Review, Inkwell Journal, and Beyond Words Magazine, among others.
Karen Javits (she/her) is a poet, educator, and PhD candidate in Creative Writing at Georgia State University, where she teaches writing courses. She also teaches poetry at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta. Karen has taught students from middle school to college, including students from refugee and immigrant communities. She participated in the Sewanee Writers’ Conference as a Tennessee Williams Scholar, and has participated in several literary retreats and workshops across Georgia. Her poetry has appeared in Crosswinds Journal, The Ekphrastic Review, and Crab Creek Review, with an award from The Atlanta Review. Originally from Miami Beach, FL, Karen lives in Decatur, GA, and enjoys spending time in nature, reading, and writing.
Kelly Kurtzhals holds an MFA in fiction from Bowling Green State University and is currently pursuing a PhD in creative writing at Georgia State University, where she serves as an Assistant Editor at Five Points. Her fiction has appeared in Utopia Science Fiction, Etherea, The Arcanist, Dream of Shadows, Flash Fiction Magazine, BULL Lit, Parsec Inc. Triangulation, and elsewhere.
