August 4, 2010

The schedule for the 2010 AJC Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical (AJC DBF) is now online at ajcdecaturbookfestival.com/2010/schedule.

More than 300 authors are expected to speak at 12 venues within walking distance of the Decatur Square. While last-minute additions to the lineup will continue, the current schedule will give book lovers a sneak peek at the authors they can see during the Labor Day Weekend event on the Decatur Square Sept. 3-5.

“We’ve added and rearranged stages to offer more seating for our incredible lineup of authors,” said AJC DBF Executive Director Daren Wang.

The new Decatur High School Auditorium, completed last fall, is now a Festival venue offering a 500-seat space. Adding the Decatur First United Methodist Chapel as a stage will allow the building to show off its historic Tiffany and Co. windows. Two stages have been added in the ballroom of the Decatur Conference Center, and the popular The Escape Stage for teens has been moved to larger quarters in the Old Courthouse on the Square. The Festival will return to First Baptist Church Decatur for a second year and will host events at Decatur Presbyterian Church.

Keynote speaker Jonathan Franzen, author of The Corrections that won the 2001 National Book Award, will kick off the Festival Friday night, Sept. 3, at Presser Hall at Agnes Scott College.

Other authors expected to draw capacity crowds include: Diana Gabaldon who returns to the Decatur Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Stage at 3 p.m. Saturday to discuss her latest books, An Echo in the Bone and The Exile: An Outlander Graphic Novel in her “All Things Outlander” presentation; Pulitzer Prize winner David Finkel; George Dawes Green, founder of The Moth, a not-for-profit storytelling organization; young adult author Cassandra Clare; adult and young adult author Ridley Pearson; and New York Times bestseller Emily Giffin.

The AJC Decatur Book Festival will celebrate its fifth year of bringing a wide variety of authors and events to the Decatur Square Labor Day weekend.
