Author and Singer/songwriter to Discuss Her New Memoir “Composed”
June 7, 2010
Legendary singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash will talk about her life and her memoir, “Composed,” at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 in Presser Hall at Agnes Scott College in Decatur (141 E. College Ave.).
Presented by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival (AJC DBF) and Yuengling Beer and hosted by Agnes Scott and A Cappella Books, the event promises to be much more than an author talking about her new book.
Cash, daughter of music legend Johnny Cash, has promised to share some stories, sign books, and play a couple of songs as part of the event. She will perform on a custom-made Martin D-41 guitar donated by America’s oldest brewery, Yuengling. And it gets better—this guitar will be auctioned after the event, with proceeds going to the festival’s literacy efforts.
“We couldn’t be more excited about hosting this event and the chance to hear Rosanne talk about her life and perform a few songs,” AJC DBF Executive Director Daren Wang said.
This will be Cash’s first trip to Atlanta following the book’s August 10 publication.
According to her publisher, in “Composed” Cash “writes candidly about her upbringing, her development as an artist, and her current life.”
Cash earned 11 No. 1 country hits in the ’80s, including “Seven Year Ache,” “The Way We Make a Broken Heart,” and “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me.” Her 2009 album, “The List,” was inspired by a list of influential songs given to her as a teenager by her father.
Her first book, “Bodies of Water” (Hyperion, 1995), received widespread critical acclaim, as did her children's book, “Penelope Jane: A Fairy's Tale” (HarperCollins, 2000). Her essays and fiction have appeared in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Oxford-American, New York Magazine, and various other periodicals.
Tickets to the event are $30 and include a copy of “Composed.” Tickets are available through Ticket Alternative.
The AJC Decatur Book Festival will celebrate its fifth year of bringing a wide variety of authors and events to the Decatur Square Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-5, 2010.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical is the largest independent book festival in the country and the fourth largest overall. In 2009, more than 300 authors and tens of thousands of festival goers crowded the historic downtown Decatur Square to enjoy book signings, author readings, panel discussions, an interactive children’s area, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops, and more.
