Go Places. Do Challenges. Earn Points and Prizes!

The AJC Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical is collaborating with SCVNGR to create an unforgettable clue solving, prize-winning, fully engrossing Festival experience. Through SCVNGR, participants will embark on a free interactive challenge, guided to check-in points by clues delivered to their mobile phones and earning points to collect awesome prizes, including an Apple iPad as the grand prize.

SCVNGR creates a custom “trek” for anyone within a square mile of the heart of downtown Decatur. The game leads players through the fifth annual AJC DBF, winding through booths, quirky local landmarks, and some of Decatur’s best hotspots, restaurants, and hangouts.

This interactive hunt takes intrepid adventurers deep into the wilds of Decatur, racing alongside fellow explorers to complete quests with photo challenges, answer funny trivia questions, and much more.

Players get points for each challenge accomplished, checking in at challenge hot spots using their mobile phones. SCVNGR keeps an electronic tally, updating live every time someone scores so the competition stays hot. Prizes will be awarded throughout the weekend, and will include AJC DBF merchandise and gift certificates from Eagle Eye Books. One lucky winner randomly drawn from the list of all those who completed every challenge will get the grand prize — an iPad!

It’s free and easy to play — SCVNGR works by sending clues to your mobile phone. All are welcome to play either via text message or by simply downloading the SCVNGR application for Android or iPhone. A special AJC DBF version of the game will be available throughout the festival starting Saturday morning and ending Sunday evening.

The AJC DBF has introduced the SCVNGR hunt to offer festival-goers a more interactive experience. The competition engages players in a fun, fast-paced competition while introducing them to Decatur highlights they might not have happened upon otherwise. SCVNGR offers the opportunity to get to know the AJC DBF better, by playing games. What’s not to love?
