August 25, 2009 (Decatur) — The 2009 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical (DBF) presents an incredible lineup of teen authors, including several New York Times bestsellers. They will be featured on the festival’s popular The Escape teen stage, which will feature events both Saturday and Sunday.
The festival will be held Labor Day Weekend, September 4-6.
“We’ve really got an exciting lineup of teen authors this year,” said DBF Executive Director Daren Wang. “The Escape stage is bigger and better than ever before.”
Author of the hugely popular Gallagher Girls series Ally Carter recently released Don’t Judge a Girl by her Cover, the latest book in the collection. She will appear Saturday at 12:30 p.m., and she will sign copies of her books directly after her 30-minute presentation.
Aimee Friedman, author of New York Times bestseller South Beach, will appear with fellow author Jackson Pierce Saturday at 2 p.m. They’ll talk about fantasy teenagers in their discussion “If You Broke His Heart, Would He Bleed? Falling In Love With a Supernatural.” Friedman’s new book, Sea Change, is about one such fantasy teenager.
Lauren Myracle, author of ttyl, will appear at the festival with Terra Elan McVoy, author of Pure, Saturday at 1:30 p.m. as part of the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” discussion. Her novels (ttyl, ttfn, l8r, and g8r) are predominantly set in Atlanta. ttyl was the very first novel to be written entirely in instant messages.
Author of the popular Pretty Little Liars series Sara Shepard will speak Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The newest book in the series, Killer, was recently released.
David Levithan, author of Boy Meets Boy, will speak on The Escape stage Saturday at 4 p.m. Levithan is a two-time winner of the Lambda Literary Award, which seeks to recognize excellence in the field of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender literature.
Mother and daughter team Melissa and Arden Baila will speak on the Escape stage Sunday at 12:45 and 3:15 p.m. They co-wrote Summer of the BFFs, a heartwarming book about four unlikely best friends.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical is the largest independent book festival in the country and the fourth largest overall. This year, more than 300 authors and tens of thousands of festival goers will crowd the historic downtown Decatur Square to enjoy book signings, author readings, panel discussions, an interactive children’s area, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops, and more.
