AJC Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical to Feature “Good ol’ Girls” Marshall Chapman and Jill McCorkle
Musician/Author Duo to Collaborate in Concert at Eddie’s Attic September 6
August 4, 2009 (Decatur) — The 2009 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical (DBF) will close with what promises to be an amazing performance by two of the four “Good ol’ Girls,” singer/songwriter Marshall Chapman and author Jill McCorkle. The concert will be at Eddie’s Attic (515- B N. Mcdonough St.) Sunday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7p.m., and tickets will be $20.
The festival will be Labor Day Weekend, September 4-6.
“It’s a real honor to have Marshall and Jill return for this year’s festival,” said DBF Executive Director Daren Wang. “We’re very excited for what promises to be a fantastic show.”
Chapman’s songs have been recorded by music legends such as Jimmy Buffett, Olivia Newton-John, Wynonna, and Conway Twitty. She and her band “The Love Slaves” toured with Jimmy Buffett in 1995 after the release of her album “It’s About Time,” which garnered rave reviews from USA Today, Time, and The Village Voice.
In addition to the ten critically acclaimed albums she has released, the multi-talented Chapman has also been successful in the literary world. She is a contributing editor to Garden and Gun magazine, and she is the author of Goodbye, Little Rock and Roller, which was a 2004 SIBA Book Award finalist. Her new book, They Came to Nashville, will be released in early 2010.
McCorkle is the celebrated author of five books that have been selected as Notable Books by the New York Times. She is also the winner of the New England Book Award, the John Dos Passos Prize for Excellence in Literature, and the North Carolina Award for Literature.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical is the largest independent book festival in the country and the fourth largest overall. This year, more than 300 authors and tens of thousands of festival goers will crowd the historic downtown Decatur Square to enjoy book signings, author readings, panel discussions, an interactive children’s area, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops, and more.
