Joseph Crespino is an associate professor of history at Emory University. He is author of In Search of Another Country: Mississippi and The Conservative Counterrevolution (Princeton University Press), which won the Lillian Smith Book Award, the McLemore Prize given by the Mississippi Historical Society, and the Nonfiction Prize given by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. He is at work on two books: an edited collection tentatively titled The End of Southern History? Integrating the Modern South and the Nation, and Strom Thurmond’s America, a political biography of the 1948 States Rights Democratic Party presidential candidate and longtime U.S. Senator from South Carolina.
