Cooking Authors and Demonstrations
Learn to make your favorite dish as you attend cooking demonstrations and discussions by our acclaimed lineup of chefs and culinary authors, or just bring your appetites and enjoy the diverse culinary fare this year’s festival offers.
If you prefer more standard choices, choose from classic festival favorites. Vendors around the Decatur Square will be selling food, beer, and wine, and pushcarts will be selling ice cream, lemonade, soft pretzels, nachos, and hot dogs. Tables and chairs will be set up on the lawns of the Old Courthouse and DeKalb County Courthouse so that festival attendees can relax in the shade, enjoy a snack, and sip a cold beverage during breaks between hearing their favorite authors.

Special Events
- Eat, Play, Read: Judy Schachner, creator of the Skippyjon Jones series, will host a mariachi brunch Sunday morning at El Tesoro followed by a promenade to the square. Anyone can join the promenade, but there is a fee for the brunch. Proceeds from the brunch will go to a charity that builds public libraries in Mexico.
- Taste of Home – With a Twist: Southern Foodways Alliance presents a picnic Sunday evening at which attendees will be able to explore the intersection of international cuisines in the South as they enjoy live music. Oh, and did we mention the pickled okra contest?
In addition, Decatur’s many superb restaurants around the festival grounds will also be open and available to festival attendees.
