Don’t Miss Your Favorite Author! Plan Ahead for the AJC Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical

Excited about the upcoming Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical (DBF), but nervous that you won’t be prepared to take full advantage of all DBF has to offer come Labor Day weekend? Don’t fret; we’ve got you covered with our guide to getting to and around the downtown Decatur Square for this year’s festival.

Getting to the festival couldn’t be easier – the Decatur Square is located directly on MARTA’s East-West transit line at the Decatur station, E6. If you choose to drive, parking is plentiful in decks, metered spaces, and paid private lots. Directions, a map, and parking information are available in printed programs, available at the Fulton and DeKalb County Libraries and at the festival, or by Clicking Here

Since a lot will be going on simultaneously, it’s a good idea to decide in advance which events you’ll want to attend, and plan accordingly. DBF schedules are available in the programs, though some changes have been made since the programs were printed. For the most up to date schedule, Click Here.

The festival venues are all within easy walking distance of one another, but plan to leave enough time between activities to get to your next event. Five minutes will be enough in most cases, and you’ll probably never need more than ten minutes.

Excited to meet your favorite author, but haven’t had the chance to pick up his or her latest book? Don’t worry; book sales and author signings will follow each talk and reading.

Worried that rain could ruin your Labor Day weekend? It won’t ruin DBF – all of the stages except for the Target Children’s Stage and the Emerging and Exhibiting Authors Stage will be indoors at venues around Decatur. Even the outdoor stages are protected from the elements – the Target Children’s Stage is under an enormous tent and the Emerging and Exhibiting Authors Stage is under the Decatur Bandstand.

Wondering where to grab a bite? Stop by a food vendor at the street fair; find a pushcart to purchase hot dogs, pretzels, funnel cake, and other snacks; or wander to nearby Decatur restaurants to enjoy a seated meal.

Have questions or concerns? Stop by an information booth. DBF will host three information booths, located in front of the Old Courthouse, on the Square by the Target Children’s Stage, and at the corner of N. McDonough St. and Trinity Ave.

Want to remember your DBF experience long after Labor Day weekend has passed? Purchase DBF merchandise! Tote bags, posters, and t-shirts will be for sale at the information booths.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical is the largest independent book festival in the country and one of the 10 largest overall. Each year, more than 250 authors and 50,000 festival goers crowd the historic downtown Decatur square to enjoy book signings, author readings, panel discussions, an interactive children’s area, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops, and more.

Interviews available upon request.
