Break out your skillets and turn up the heat. The 2008 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical (DBF) is bringing some of the world’s finest chefs to town.
DBF will be held Labor Day Weekend, August 29-31, on and around the downtown Decatur Square.
“Decatur has always had a reputation of being home to some of the finest dining in Atlanta, so we are very proud to bring some of the finest chefs to the festival to showcase their talents,” said Daren Wang, Executive Director of DBF.
The festival’s culinary hub will be located at Chef’s Warehouse off Ponce de Leon Ave. Each author will perform a cooking demonstration in the custom kitchen, and then sign books.
Some of the featured chefs include:
The Cornbread Nation panel discussion, a must-see, will take place Sunday at 5 p.m., and will be moderated by Southern food expert John T. Edge. One of the featured panelists is Kevin Young, whose poetry collection, “Jelly Roll,” was a finalist for the National Book Award.
Also appearing at the Cook’s Warehouse Stage will be Kimberly Kennedy, Nancie McDermott, and Martha Hall Foose.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical is the largest independent book festival in the country and one of the 10 largest overall. Each year, more than 250 authors and 50,000 festival goers crowd the historic downtown Decatur square to enjoy book signings, author readings, panel discussions, an interactive children’s area, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops, and more.
