A decade since the break-up of his seminal Arizona band, the Refreshments, Art Edwards emerges with his first ever solo CD, "Songs from Memory" and his second novel, "Ghost Notes." The first single from "Songs from Memory," "Riverboat Captain," is also present in Edwards' second rock novel, "Ghost Notes," as a song written by one of the characters, making "Ghost Notes" and "Songs from Memory" companion pieces.
Art Edwards co-founded the Refreshments, a Tempe, Arizona-based rock band that recorded two albums for Mercury Records in the 1990s. The band's hit single, "Banditos,” rose to number eleven on the alternative radio charts in 1996, and the band wrote and recorded the theme song for the Fox television series "King of the Hill."
His musical collaboration with high school classmate Bret Hartley (Sugarland, Billy Pilgrim, Clay Cook) has resulted in "Songs from Memory," which includes the single "Riverboat Captain" and nine other songs featuring Edwards' infectious pop melodies and Hartley's at times searing, at other times textured and elegant, guitar playing.
With "Ghost Notes," Edwards continues the tradition of quality rock literature he started with his debut novel, "Stuck Outside of Phoenix," a novella that received several positive reviews and was nominated for iUniverse's Star Program. ("Stuck Outside of Phoenix" will be re-released on the Defunct Press imprint in 2009.)
Edwards received a merit scholarship to attend the University of San Francisco’s MFA in Writing program, graduating in 2002.
The writer/musician has toured extensively in 2008, participating in everything from full band gigs to solo acoustic events in Phoenix, Denver, Atlanta, Nashville, St. Louis, Chicago, Dallas and Oklahoma City.
He lives in St. Charles, Illinois, with his wife, Raquel.
