

Bring your entire family to the festival for interactive children’s activities and presentations by top authors and illustrators!
The children’s activities will kick off on Saturday morning with a parade, led by various costumed characters and a local marching band, which will begin at the corner of Commerce and Clairemont, and culminate at the children’s stage with a dramatic reading of “Madeline and the Cats of Rome” by John Bemelmans Marciano, grandson of Ludwig Bemelmans. Everyone is encouraged to march in the parade. Wear a wide-brimmed yellow hat and a blue dress. Or a beret. Or sing something in French as you marchez through the streets of Decatur.
The Target Children's Stage will host popular children’s and young adult authors and performances, including:
All day Friday, children's activities will be up and running for City of Schools of Decatur and select other students participating in our Friday Field Trips program, supported by a grant from the Decatur Education Foundation. Select City Schools of Decatur and DeKalb Country pre-kindergarten classes will also join the festival Friday for a morning of storytelling, sponsored by the United Way.
At the Decatur Book Festival, children will learn about literacy through fun activities, including music, storytelling, and crafts.
