AJC Decatur Book Festival Hosts Kick-Off Party at Watershed

Decatur restaurant welcomes three Pulitzer Prize winning authors

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival––presented by DeKalb Medical––recently kicked off of its second annual literary event, which will be held August 31 to September 2, 2007, with a media luncheon at Decatur restaurant Watershed.  Nearly 100 members of the Atlanta media attended.

Guests of the event included Pulitzer Prize winners Natasha Trethewey, Cynthia Tucker, and Hank Klibanoff, as well as Scott Peacock, recipient of the “Best Chef in the Southeast” award by the James Beard Foundation.

Richard Lenz, president and CEO of Lenz, Inc., unveiled the festival’s poster, designed by Lenz Art Director, Scott Sanders. Lenz, Inc., also designed the 2006 poster, which received a Gold Kaleidoscope Award in the category of “Best Promotional Poster” at the 2007 Annual Southeast Festivals and Events Conference awards program.

“We are proud to once again define the graphic identity of the festival,” Lenz said.  “Scott did an excellent job as always.”

Daren Wang, Executive Director of the AJC-DBF is looking forward to this year’s festival.  “We like to think of ourselves as the city too busy to hate and the city not too busy to sit down and read a great book,” Wang said.

Major sponsors of the Decatur Book Festival include The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dekalb Medical, Stone Mountain Park, Agnes Scott College, Random House Audio, Lenz, and Target.

The 2007 AJC-DBF will be held Labor Day weekend in and around the downtown Decatur Square. The festival will feature 200 world-class authors, keynote addresses by Charles Frazier, best-selling author of Cold Mountain, and Kinky Friedman, American singer-songwriter, novelist, humorist, and politician, a children’s stage along with children’s activities, live music and poetry, and cooking demonstrations led by celebrity chefs.
