U.S. Representative John Lewis to be Guest of Honor at AJC Decatur Book Festival “Friends of the Festival” Reception

Civil Rights Legend Lewis and Author Kathleen Benson To Discuss Children's Book About Lewis' Life; Decatur Mayor Emerita Elizabeth Wilson to Co-Host Event

Civil Rights legend and U.S. Representative John Lewis will be the guest of honor at an intimate “Friends of the Festival” reception co-hosted by Decatur Mayor Emerita Elizabeth Wilson and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Friday, February 23, at 8:30 p.m., in Decatur’s City Hall (509 North McDonough Street).

The event, a celebration of Black History Month, will follow directly after Representative Lewis' 7:15 p.m. public talk, presented by the Georgia Center for the Book at the Decatur Library. At both events, Representative Lewis and author Kathleen Benson will discuss John Lewis in the Lead: A Story of the Civil Rights Movement, an illustrated children's book chronicling Lewis' life.

The private reception will offer an opportunity for conversation with Representative Lewis. The event is open exclusively to the AJC Decatur Book Festival's “Friends of the Festival.” Those wishing to become a Friend of the Festival may do so at the door for a minimum donation of $20. The Chocolate Bar, opening soon in downtown Decatur, will provide wine, desserts, and savories.
