AJC Decatur Book Festival Honored With 2006 James Patterson PageTurner Award

DBF One of Only Two Book Festivals to be Recognized Among 39 Winners

50,000 Bibliophiles Attended Inaugural DBF in 2006

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival (DBF) has been honored with a 2006 Patterson PageTurner Award. DBF is one of only two book festivals recognized in this year's awards, created by best-selling thriller and mystery writer James Patterson. The award includes $5,000 to support the festival.

The annual Patterson PageTurner Awards give $500,000 to individuals and organizations who find original and effective ways to “spread the excitement of books and reading.” The legendary Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival was the only other book festival to win an award this year.

“We're honored to be one of only two book festivals recognized,” says Daren Wang, Executive Director of DBF. “It's a real thrill to share that honor with the Tennessee Williams festival—which will hold its 21st festival this year—while we're only in our second year.”

The inaugural festival, held over Labor Day weekend in 2006, drew more than 50,000 people over three days. The second annual AJC Decatur Book Festival will take place over Labor Day weekend of 2007, August 31–September 2, in historic downtown Decatur.
