Event organizers recently announced the stable of authors that will make up the DeKalb Medical Health and Wellness track at the 2007 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical (DBF). The festival is Labor Day weekend, August 31-September 2, opening Friday morning and continuing through Sunday evening with nearly non-stop events and activities.
Melissa Fay Greene returns for her second appearance at DBF, while Dr. Bruce Feinberg, David Friedman, Ilona Meagher, and Hal Runkel make their festival debuts.
DBF Executive Director Daren Wang said the health and wellness track is a welcome addition this year, adding another element for attendees to enjoy.
“The DeKalb Medical Health and Wellness track will provide festival goers a chance to discuss and learn about topics such as post-traumatic stress disorder and America’s troops, cancer, AIDS, parenting, and Charles Lindbergh and his quest for the fountain of youth,” said Wang.
Fay Greene has written on such topics as civil rights, Southern poverty, adoption, and the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa. She will discuss her book, There Is No Me Without You, a true story about a middle-class Ethiopian foster mother and the AIDS orphans she raised.
Dr. Feinberg (president/CEO of Georgia Cancer Specialists) will discuss his Cancer Answers series—designed to explain cancer in its simplest terms for patient and family—including Breast Cancer Answers and the upcoming Colon Cancer Answers.
Friedman’s The Immortalists details how aviation legend Charles Lindbergh and renowned physician Dr. Alexis Carrel attempted to cheat death by achieving immortality.
Meagher has done extensive work in the field of post-traumatic stress disorder and its affects on America’s troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan for her newest, Moving a Nation to Care: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and America's Returning Troops.
Runkel, a licensed marriage and family therapist, is “quickly becoming America's greatest expert on human relationships.” He’ll discuss his book, ScreamFree Parenting: The Revolutionary Approach to Raising Your Kids by Keeping Your Cool.
