The AJC Decatur Book Festival Announces Major Sponsors
AJC Decatur Book Festival Honored With 2006 James Patterson PageTurner Award
The Decatur Book Festival (DBF) today announced that The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) has renewed its title sponsorship of the second annual literary festival, which will take place in downtown Decatur during Labor Day weekend, August 31–September 2, 2007. The partnership proved wildly successful in its first year, with more than 50,000 bibliophiles attending author readings, book signings and panel discussions at the festival.
The 2007 AJC-DBF partnership calls for an increased level of support from the AJC.
“We are very grateful to the AJC for once again stepping up to be our title sponsor,” said Daren Wang, executive director of DBF. “This festival would not be possible, and could not thrive and flourish, without the support of the AJC.”
Amy Chown, AJC vice president of marketing, said, “The AJC’s support of the Decatur Book Festival reflects our commitment to serving the local literary community and our readers. Support of reading, both of the newspaper and of books, is vital to our business and to the lives of our customers.”
Alice Murray, chairman of the DBF Board of Directors, noted, “We’re pleased that the AJC has expanded its commitment to the festival, and I’m looking forward to another successful event.”
The annual Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival had its inaugural festival over Labor Day weekend 2006. An estimated 50,000 people attended talks and readings by 125 authors, including Arianna Huffington, Edward P. Jones, Michael Connelly, Pearl Cleage, Melissa Fay Greene, Mike Luckovich, Robert Olen Butler, and Marvin Woods. Planning for the 2007 AJC Decatur Book Festival is already under way. It will be held in downtown Decatur during Labor Day weekend, August 31-September 2, 2007.
