Children’s Activities

Bring your entire family to the festival for interactive children’s activities and presentations by top authors and illustrators!

Children’s Authors

The children’s stage will host several popular children’s and young adult authors, including:

• Rick Riordan, bestselling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series
• Judy Schachner, author of the Skippyjon Jones series
• Peter Kuper, regular illustrator for Time, Newsweek, the New York Times, and MAD
• Chris Raschka, author/illustrator of the Caldecott Honor-winning YO! YES? and the Caldecott Medal-winning The Hello, Goodbye Window.
• Melinda Long, author of the bestselling How I Became a Pirate
• Holly Black, best-selling author of the Spiderwick Chronicles

Wild Things Children's Parade

The children’s activities will kick off on Saturday morning with a parade, led by various costumed characters and a local marching band, which will begin at the corner of Clairemont Avenue and Commerce Avenue, and culminate at the children’s stage with a dramatic reading of Where the Wild Things Are.

Friday Field Trips

All day Friday, children’s activities will be up and running for those lucky kids whose teachers have chosen to participate in our Friday Field Trips program.

• Elementary activities: Friday, 9-10:30 a.m.
• Middle school activities: Friday, 11-12 p.m.
