Elaine N. Orr

Elaine Neil Orr was born and grew up in southwestern Nigeria. A writer of poetry, creative non-fiction, and fiction, Orr's latest book, "Gods of Noonday: A White Girl's African Life," was chosen by BookSense as one of the top ten university press books of 2003 (it was ranked #2). Elaine Orr's essays and stories have recently appeared in "The Missouri Review," "The Louisville Review," and "Image," and her creative non-fiction and poetry have been collected in "High Horse," "Women on the Edge," and "Cries of the Spirit." Orr has received grants and fellowships from the NEH, the North Carolina Arts Council and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She is an award-winning teacher of literature and creative writing at N.C. State University in Raleigh, N.C., and teaches in the Brief Residency MFA in Writing Program at Spalding University in Louisville.
