Matthew O'Brien is a Las Vegas-based writer and editor. He's the author of "Beneath the Neon: Life and Death in the Tunnels of Las Vegas," and is news editor of "Las Vegas CityLife," an alternative weekly with a circulation of 85,000. Matt was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Decatur, Ga. He has lived in Las Vegas since 1997. His fiction has been published in "Red Rock Review," "In the Shadow of the Strip" (a collection of short stories published by the University of Nevada Press), and other literary journals. His nonfiction has been published in several magazines and newspapers, including "Las Vegas Life," the "Las Vegas Review-Journal," "High Country News," the "Tucson Weekly," the "Reno News & Review "and" CityLife." He recently won a Nevada Arts Council fellowship grant for an excerpt from "Beneath the Neon."
