Keynote Speaker Announced, Event Poster and New Sponsors Unveiled
Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival (AJC DBF) participants Michael Connelly, Emily Saliers, Joshilyn Jackson, Melissa Fay Greene, and Scott Peacock, as well as major Atlanta media players, attended the AJC DBF press launch June 29 at Watershed restaurant in Decatur.
The authors and media representatives were on hand for the announcement of the keynote speaker and new sponsors, and the unveiling of the event poster.
Political columnist, author, and newsblogger Arianna Huffington will give the keynote address to kick off the festival. Marketing/PR/Design firm Lenz, Inc. of Decatur designed the new logo.
Huffington will speak at Agnes Scott College on the evening of Friday, September 1.
Also announced at the luncheon was Saliers participation, and new sponsors Target and Emory Libraries. Target is sponsoring the children’s stage with a major grant, while Emory Library is contributing $5,000 as a general sponsor.
Saliers co-owns Watershed and Peacock is Executive Chef.
During the event, the historic downtown Decatur square will be packed with 100 world-class authors, booksellers, and publishers; children’s activities; food and beer vendors; and a wine garden. Local venues, including Eddie’s Attic and Java Monkey, will house live music and poetry readings. Cooking demonstrations will be held at The Cook’s Warehouse on Ponce de Leon Avenue. The event will conclude Sunday evening with a barbecue picnic and fireworks show.
