Labor Day Weekend Event Caters to Culinary Crowd

Marvin Woods, renowned chef and host of Turner South’s Home Plate, has joined the lineup of best-selling authors appearing at the inaugural Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival (DBF), to be held in downtown Decatur, Georgia, September 1–3.

During the festival, tens of thousands from metro Atlanta and beyond will share the historic Decatur square with world-class authors, editors, publishers, and booksellers for an event filled with literature, music, food, and fun. The event will offer activities for the entire family, including cooking demonstrations at The Cook’s Warehouse on Ponce de Leon Avenue.

“We’re thrilled to add Marvin Woods to the line-up for the chef’s stage,” said Daren Wang, Executive Director of DBF. “We have several prominent authors and chefs appearing, rounding out an activity-packed festival, and we’re adding more every day.”

In addition to Woods, DBF will present a lineup of several well-known figures from the culinary industry, including:

  • Nathalie Dupree, award-winning author and popular cooking show host
  • Shirley Corriher, “food scientist” and author of CookWise: The Hows and Whys of Successful Cooking
  • John T. Edge, food historian and author of Southern Belly
  • John Egerton, local author of Southern Food
  • Susan Puckett, food editor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and author of The South: The Beautiful Cookbook

During the event, the historic downtown Decatur square will be packed with booksellers and authors, children’s activities, and a wine garden. Confirmed authors include best-selling mystery writer Michael Connelly, Pulitzer Prize winners Edward P. Jones and Robert Olen Butler, popular hip-hop writer and Contributing Editor for Rolling Stone Magazine Touré, and Oprah Book Club favorite Connie May Fowler.

Local venues, including Java Monkey and Eddie’s Attic, will house poetry readings and live music. DBF will provide a weekend of entertainment and activities for the entire family, and will conclude Sunday evening with a barbecue picnic and fireworks show.
