AJC Decatur Book Festival Brings the Literary World To Atlanta’s Children

Fun-Filled Event Offers Activities for the Whole Family

Over Labor Day Weekend, September 1-3, tens of thousands from metro Atlanta and beyond are expected to share the historic downtown Decatur square with world-class authors, editors, publishers, and booksellers for the inaugural Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival. The literary event will offer activities and events for the entire family, including a dedicated children’s stage.

"Atlanta has long needed a lively, family-friendly book festival," says Daren Wang, Executive Director of DBF and publisher and editor of Verb: An Audioquarterly. “With the authors we have confirmed so far, DBF is shaping up to be a marquee literary event!”

The children’s activities will kick off on Saturday morning with a parade, led by The Cat in the Hat and a local marching band, which will begin at the Decatur Library and culminate at the children’s stage with a dramatic reading of Green Eggs and Ham.

The stage will be the venue for several popular children’s book authors, illustrators, storytellers and musicians, including:

Also during the festival, children will have the opportunity to make and bind their own books, stop by a puppet-making booth, watch cartooning demonstrations, interact with costumed characters, and enjoy delicious food, among other activities. And for those who wish to take a more active part in the festivities, a youth poetry slam will also be held on the square.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival (DBF) is the best and largest literary event in the Atlanta area. DBF will provide a weekend of entertainment and activities for the entire family, bringing the best of literature, music, and cooking to the community.
