Susan Puckett

Susan Puckett has been editor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s award-winning Food & Drink section since 1990. A native of Jackson, Miss., she has degrees from the University of Mississippi and Iowa State University and has also written about food for The (Jackson, MS) Clarion-Ledger, (Cleveland, OH) Plain Dealer and Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, as well as several national magazines. Before coming to the AJC, she authored A Cook’s Tour of Mississippi and A Cook’s Tour of Iowa. Since then she has written Dips and The Ultimate Barbecue Sauce Cookbook (with Jim Auchmutey), and edited The South: the Beautiful Cookbook for Harper-Collins. Last fall, Simon & Schuster published The 5:30 Challenge: 5 Ingredients, 30 Minutes, Dinner On the Table, a cookbook she wrote with AJC food writer Jeanne Besser based on the popular column of the same name. This year, she has been collaborating with Southern Foodways Alliance director John T. Edge on an ongoing series for the AJC called Saving Southern Food, which includes articles examining our regional culinary institutions that run quarterly in Food & Drink. A companion to the series, the Southern Recipe Restoration Project, invites readers to submit heirloom recipes to be updated by a panel of Southern-born Atlanta chefs.
