Paul Hemphill first made his mark as a daily “street” columnist for The Atlanta Journal during the late sixties. He wrote his first book soon afterwards while a Nieman Fellow at Harvard: The Nashville Sound. His fifteenth and latest is Lovesick Blues, a highly-acclaimed biography of Hank Williams, Sr. Born in Birmingham to a long-distance trucker, he is a graduate of Auburn, a Pulitzer Prize nominee for the memoir Leaving Birmingham, and lives in Atlanta.
