Donald Moore

Donald Moore is a zoo director, animal behavior professional, wildlife biologist and educator who serves as an advisor to the group Polar Bears International.

Dr Moore recently wrote “Disney’s Wonderful World of Animals” (2006), based on questions about animals that kids ask him most frequently. He was also an author for the popular natural history book “Tug Hill: A Four Season Guide”, has published over four dozen papers or manuals on animal husbandry and behavior, serves as a peer-reviewer for several scientific journals, and has written and edited popular children’s science and history literature. He was on the zoo team that assisted with the 1987 reintroduction of endangered red wolves into Alligator River NWR, and was technical advisor for the New York State reintroduction of lynx into the Adirondack Mountains wilderness area. Moore has done field research on endangered Pampas deer and other mammals in both North America and South America, and on visitor behavior toward natural history exhibits and interpretation. He is a technical editor for the Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science (JAAWS).

Moore has received national and local awards for excellence in interpretation of natural history and behavior of wildlife. He is a Certified Wildlife Biologist (TWS) and is a Resident Fellow of the Explorers Club; Moore leads the animal behavior and conservation focus at Hunter College, City University of New York, where he teaches and mentors graduate students. Moore lives with his wife and two chocolate Labrador retrievers near a New York City coastal park.
