Adrian Fogelin

Adrian Fogelin, the daughter of fiction writer Maria B. Fogelin, grew up in a home littered with manuscripts in various stages of production. For the younger Fogelin writing has always seemed a very normal occupation. Her life, however, has been anything but.

Following her graduation from the Rhode Island School of Design, Adrian accepted a position as an animal illustrator at the Baltimore Zoo. After the birth of her daughter, she became "a one-armed woman" because she was so fascinated with the child she "rarely put her down."

During the fifteen years she, her husband Ray, and daughter Josie, lived in the Florida Keys—six of which were spent aboard an old wooden cruiser—Fogelin worked at a daycare center, taught art courses at the community college, designed pillows and wall hangings, owned and operated an art gallery, kept the books for a local woodworker, assisted a potter, worked in libraries, and like her mother, began leaving piles of manuscript pages around the house.

Fogelin's five children's novels, recipients of numerous awards, are written with honesty, warmth, and a kid-brand of humor, guaranteed to captivate young readers.
